As we rise again, build again, move forward, their Spirit is interwoven with the Spirit of Hope that is Joplin. We forever remember those dear souls who left us too soon. What was lost can be rebuilt, when it is brick and mortar. We can be knocked down, we can lose what is dear to us, but we cannot be kept down. Each business, or restaurant, that reopens is a testament to the determination that has defined Joplin’s recovery. I’m thrilled Cici’s has returned to Joplin. He said it tasted like macaroni & cheese on flatbread! It was a great selection, although with the number of diners present, those pizzas didn’t last long! I saw a pizza I had never seen before….a macaroni & cheese pizza! My niece’s husband, Jon, declared it good. I didn’t feel deprived at all! I did walk down the buffet though, to see what was being offered. Being on my detox diet, I chose to eat salad and a chicken soup with a clear broth. That was no small task for our large group, but he made it happen. The line moved quickly and the manager met each group as they paid and found tables to dine at. We enjoyed our dinner, in spite of the crowd. It was only a couple of months ago, when I spotted the “Now Hiring” signs fluttering in front of its new location that I finally believed Cici’s was on the way back! Rumors alternated between saying the pizza place was not going to be in Joplin again to talk about its impending opening. And with the reopening taking place almost three years later, it has been a very long wait for them to come back! In fact, there was some concern that Cici’s would not return. Our Cici’s Pizza was one of the restaurants that was destroyed the day of the May 2011 tornado. The cinnamon rolls not only looked and smelled good, they tasted delicious! You could find all your favorite pizzas there plus a few specialties like Buffalo Wing Pizza and several dessert pizzas. They served up pasta, salad, soup and a variety of pizzas, buffet style, for a very reasonable price. We weren’t the only ones excited about welcoming Cici’s back to Joplin….the line was out the door when we arrived.Ĭici’s Pizza was always a popular Joplin restaurant. If I could, I would incorporate every meal of my day with those breadsticks.Today’s first was a fun family outing to the newly opened Cici’s Pizza for dinner! Eleven of us took advantage of the Opening Special of $5 for the buffet. You know something at a restaurant is good when you think about it days later. The breadsticks were also a favorite of our group. The flatbread pizza was perhaps my favorite as it was just thin enough to be crunchy without the chance of breaking teeth. Not that it was horrible, but at one point it was just eating a lot of Velveeta cheese on pizza crust. The traditional Supreme Pizza as we know it is topped with pepperoni, meatballs, sausage, green bell pepper, mushrooms, and onions. The macaroni and cheese one seemed like a good idea when I was on the line, but eating it was another story. There are also non-traditional varieties like barbecue, Mexican style (with lettuce), spinach alfredo and macaroni and cheese. In my close to one hour visit to the location, new pizzas were put out every few minutes and there was always a new variety waiting for a return trip.Īll of the classics were readily available like pepperoni, Hawaiian, plain cheese and veggie. For that price you get to choose from a small salad bar, pasta station, soup selection and a big row of freshly made pizzas. Drinks are separate for $1.89 (side note: they have apple Fanta!). One of the major selling points of Cici’s Pizza is the price. Although Google Maps will get you lost, just know it’s right next to the Wal-Mart. The location in Corona is right on McKinley right off the 91 freeway, making for quick access. And after years of waiting, pizza filled dreams are finally realized. The chain has opened locations in Corona, Chino Hills and Murrieta. Commercials touting the all-you-can-eat buffet would play endlessly on the television, but without an Inland location to visit. Cici’s Pizza has been a long running, cruel enigma for Inland area residents.
